Zovirax In Treatment Of Herpes
Alongside with other medications used to treat genital herpes, Zovirax drug is considered to be one of the most appropriate and effective drugs today. Its active ingredient needed for the treatment of herpes is Acyclovir.
Zovirax is available in the form of tablets that need to be taken orally. The treatment should be started as early as possible. The common dose comprises 200 mg to be taken 5 times per day with 4 hours intervals. However, foe every individual case the dose may vary depending on various factors: age, reaction to the drug, pregnancy, breast-feeding etc.
There are no concrete precautions to the use of Zovirax other than for patients with impaired renal function who may need adjustment of the recommended dose to avoid build-up of Acyclovir in the body. In case you have any drug allergies or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding you should inform your doctor. In rare cases Zovirax may cause some side effects. Some of them include:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Skin rash
As a matter of fact, side effects may become more mild if you go on with the treatment. But in case these side effects are very acute and have not been gone away as the treatment goes on, it is necessary to consult a health care provider.
